The last time I wrote a blog post, it was 2012 or 2013. I had been writing about Washington’s Insurance Fair Conduct Act, mostly because I wanted to make sense of it for myself and share what I was learning with others. That blog eventually turned into a book, which, to my surprise, found a bit of a following among trial lawyers in Washington.

Then life got even more full, in the best and busiest ways. I became a dad. I started a new firm. Our cases have been keeping us busy. And as much as I enjoy writing, it slipped down the list of priorities. But I’ve missed it—more than I realized. Not just the act of writing, but the conversations a blog can spark, the way it can connect people who otherwise might never cross paths.

So I’m starting again. I hope this space will speak to other lawyers, law students, folks curious about what it is we do for our clients, or people just trying to understand how lawsuits work. I believe sharing what we know—especially in this profession—matters.

At home, I sometimes tell my kids to check in with two simple questions: Who am I? Why am I here? So I’ll end this first post with that same check-in. Who am I? I’m Isaac. I’m a dad. I’m the son of parents who came to this country from Mexico. I’m a brother. I’m a trial lawyer.

Why am I here? Because a lot of people loved me, helped me, and believed in me. I’m here to raise kind, healthy, and curious kids. I’m here to teach, and to help where I can. This work—being a trial lawyer—has let me do all of that in a way that feels meaningful.

Thanks for reading. I’m glad to be back. More soon.
